LA Fabric District Haul

I like the imperfections in the leather pieces below.

Wooh! We went to the Fabric District over last weekend and I must say I pulled together a great haul. My second semester classes include a Shoe Making Class and Intermediate Sewing so I needed to gather some materials for my first few projects. Some of the scrap leather is for some moccasins and some fabric is going towards a collared shirt. You may have seen a preview of the collared shirt I'm making on my Instagram. First off we went to Sav-Mor Leather, a hole in the wall leather and supply business on a creepy street under a bridge. At first I thought the store was closed and we were extremely hesitant to walk into the place but I mustered up the courage to open the door and walk through a room full of boxes of leather and into the back where it was leather heaven. Damn, I must say I was extremely overwhelmed because I have never bought leather before and I had no clue what kind of leather I needed for my class. But after watching a few people rummage through massive scrap boxes, I dug right in and started pulling things out that I thought were neat finds. Also, I had no idea how they priced their items. There were signs on the wall that stated "Our prices depend on how you treat the Leather." Now ,WHAT THE FUCK DOES THAT MEAN?! Haha well it really didn't matter because wow my scraps were sooooo CHEAP! See that pile of leather I bought? It was all $6.15! Now that is some good stuff. I expected all of it to at least be twenty dollars. Well I was pleasantly surprised. :) Then we wandered through the fabric district and I bought those cute laces and powder blue chiffon from the Michael Levine Loft. But yes, a very successful day. I cannot wait to go back for more materials, hopefully someday soon.

1/21/12 Museum Part 2 w/ Quick Photo Shoot

Quick Photo Shoot after lunch:

My bf, a natural model. haha
Before we went to the La Brea tar pits, we stopped and ate some soup kitchen. The parking lot had this amazing picture on the wall behind us of a man covering his face with his hands and just one of his eyes peaking out. Immediately Chris and I knew we had to take pictures in front of it. I'm wearing his leather and wool varsity jacket, a teal cardigan from old navy, black jeans from papaya, a pink v-neck from target, Ray-Ban wayfarers, and Converse. Chris is wearing(from what I can recognize) Creative Recreation low tops, Volcom color block cardigan, friendship bracelets, and a glossy black g-shock. (Right now, I'm listening to Girls Just Want To Have Fun-Cyndi Lauper)
La Brea Tar Pits
 Tar!

 Brothers :)
I made him the wooden bead bracelet and the purple, red, and blue friendship bracelet.

Exhibit of 404 Dire Wolf skulls out of 1,600 found in the tar.
The last time I was at the tar pits was probably when I was 6 with my dad. It was fun to see it the enormous tar pits again and actually retain the information. So many animals got stuck in the tar. It kind of makes me laugh that so many dire wolfs got trapped in the tar because you'd think they would learn to stop trying to get an easy lunch by reaching for the animals already stuck. Anyway, this was a great day. We went to two amazing museums and I got to spend time with my boyfriend and his family.

1/17/12 Museum Weekend! Part 1

This is the first thing you saw as you walked into the Natural History Museum in LA!
I was astounded by the fact that these were real bones from creatures that once lived on this planet.

Look at the Dino's tiny little arms!
Chris posing like a swag boss.

Chris and I goofing around with the statues.

The Beautiful Gems inside a Vault at the Museum:
I couldn't capture the gorgeous green/turquoise color of this emerald on my camera.

Mmmm! Looks like jello! :3 Yummy!
 Texture and mustard.
I wish I could have taken pictures of every geological formation but the Gems and Minerals room was massive and Chris's grandparents were waiting on us. There was also lots of taxidermy displayed but I felt that would be kind of sad to post. The dinosaur bones left me dumbfounded. I'm still shocked that animals with bones bigger than my body walked our Earth. Nature never ceases to amaze me. <3

We also went to the La Brea tar pits that day, so I'll post those pictures soon along with some fashion shots we took right after lunch. :)

1/8/12 Art Show

(Chris and I standing in front of A Plank for Every Pirate)
Last night my boyfriend's family invited me to go with them to Glenn Kaino's(bf uncle) art showcase in Culver City LA hosted by Honor Fraser's gallery. Chris has shown me a few pictures of his uncle's art in magazines before so I kind of anticipated some unusual pieces. It was interesting to think that he throws together all these pieces, puts them on display, and actually go out there and sell them. I saw him explaining to a group of people his work and I thought you must be a really good salesman to get all this publicity and earn a living from it.
This was the first time I've gone to an art gallery other than the community art exhibit near my house. It was pretty stressful because there were so many people...and dogs haha. I love dogs. :) But I get pretty anxious when there are people trying to walk here, then there, and taking pictures of the art over my shoulder so I didn't really take any pictures with my camera. Chris, on the other hand, had his camera around his neck and took a good amount of lovely photos from last night. So as soon as he emails me the pictures I'll post them up.
Chris is wearing transparent wayfarer glasses, a plaid shirt, Sovereign Code bow tie, Sabit varsity jacket, blue jeans, and Mario Nike's. I'm wearing my sisters gold colored necklace, Renuar white dress and sheer top that she got in Israel, a pin striped grey blazer, over the knee heather grey socks from Target, Mossimo suede wedges.
<3
Oh! And we saw Lisa Edelstein (Cuddy from House) there! She had gorgeous baby blue eyes and she was much shorter than I expected. But AH! I LOVE HOUSE!

12/12/11 Lost in LA

12/12/11 Lost in LA
I love wondering around LA. Getting lost then you find yourself in an interesting place. My friend and I took the train down to LA during the summer to shop for some sample sales. We made great finds that day and had a whole lot of fun. It's a day I'll never forget.
